This is chicory. It has a long and storied history and a wide variety of uses, but where I live in the US Midwest, it's primarily a weed, growing where it wants to and tough to get rid of.
I have long been fascinated with the color of this flower. It's not a color you see often in nature, and I find it beautiful. Many find this plant to be an annoyance (myself included at times when it invades my yard). But there are lessons to be learned from the chicory.
It's resilient - it comes back year after year, growing sometimes in what seems to be inhospitable conditions.
It's unapologetic - with that color, it's hard to miss and unafraid to be itself.
It's strong - anyone who's ever tried to get rid of it knows it will do anything to resist being pulled up, cut out, or mown down.
Today I take my lesson from the chicory. I will be resilient, unapologetically myself, and strong.
